Rice farmers in Huye District say they have experienced an increase in rice production but are lacking market for their produce and also lack a processing factory.
Muzuka Eugene, the Mayor of Huye District has requested for Government intervention to address the said overproduction problem.
However, the Prime Minister of Rwanda Dr. Pierre Damien Habumuremyi has asked farmers and local leaders not to see overproduction as a problem but they should find the solution between themselves.
“Before seeking for government intervention, you have to look for solutions among yourselves while at the same time discussing with private sector to invest in rice processing as soon as the produce is there.”
The Eastern Province has agreed to start building rice processing factory as soon as possible.
