300 Rusizi families from disaster prone zones to be resettled in a model village

Rusizi district officials have unveiled a plan to build a model village where 300 families from disaster prone zones and chaos will be settled.

The village will be built in Njambwe region in Murambi cell of Nyakarenzo sector.

Construction activities are expected to have been completed by 2016/2017. Residents of Nkungu and Nyakarenzo sectors will be firstly settled in the model village.

One house is expected to cost between Ref 10 and 15 million.

The mayor of Rusizi district, Harerimana Frederic says that the initiative is meant to bring together residents to facilitate access to infrastructures.

“We want to build a model village bringing together scattered residents to ease access to infrastructures. We will start with 300 families and expand as time evolves,” he said.

He explained that the next stage is to study the field upon which the model village will be built to identify real cost of the whole construction activity.
