The Minister of Local Government James Musoni has said from 21st January 2013, approximately 50,000 young school finalists will begin national voluntary services.
He announced this at a press conference on the state of implementation of performance contracts (Imihigo) in all provinces of the country.
This service will be delivered nationally by youth from all public and private secondary schools operating in Rwanda.
They will be present in all districts of the country and their contribution will be more focused on the areas of socio-economic development identified and prioritized by each district.
"These young finalists will help where the need is felt across much manual work but also intellectual work including mobilization and sensitization of the population on priority issues," added the Minister responsible for local government.
On the question of the added value in terms of money that will be generated by the service, under the Ministry replied that the purpose is not to save money but to cultivate and strengthen civic and patriotic among Rwandan youth.
Commenting on the achievements of "Imihigo" James Musoni Minister indicates that the overall objectives were achieved. It recognizes however that not everything has been perfect, and in some districts certain objectives were not achieved.
