A commercial house in Tarinyota, Biryogo cell,Nyarugenge sector, Nyarugenge district in Kigali city belonging to a businessman identified as Kanani Musa caught fire last night and burnt to ashes.

The commercial building that housed a spare parts shop caught fire yesterday around 19:30 hours but the cause of fire has not yet been established.

One of the witnesses has told IGIHE that by the time the three-roomed house caught fire, the occupants were not around and electricity was switched off.

The owner of the building, Kanani Musa has told IGIHE that he doesn’t know the cause of fire.

“We don’t know the cause of fire because there was power blackout and there was no one inside at the time of incident,” he said.

Talking about the value of lost property he said; “I can’t be precise about the value of lost properties because I started bringing in materials after genocide and I used to buy more items from public auctions. I estimate lost properties at about Rwf 70 million,” he said.

The building was not insured.

The police spokesperson in Kigali city, Supt Hitayezu Emmanuel has told IGIHE that police extinguished the fire before it spread to other houses and no person was injured.

He said that investigations are underway to establish the cause of the fire.
