The Minister of Justice, Johnston Busingye has assured community mediators in Musanze district that they will soon receive bicycles promised by President Paul Kagame to ease their work.
He made the assurance yesterday as he launched a two-day training of community mediators at national level in a ceremony held in Cyuve sector of Musanze district, Northern Province.
Minister Busingye asked community mediators to uphold integrity and commitment in delivering services.
“You must keep away from negative vices leading to any form of bribery including what is called ‘ transport facilitation’ and ‘pen’s ink’ as they are outright corruption cases. You must build credibility and properly execute duties,” he said.
Busingye told them that they will receive bicycles to facilitate their work within this week.
“The nation recognizes your work. You have received phones, Mutuelle de santé and you will start receiving bicycles this week,” he said.
Habimana Erneste, one of community mediators commended the efforts by the government, of providing them with bicycles to facilitate their movement to areas of mediation and ease the way of gathering evidence.
Nyirahabineza Immaculée, another community mediator said the bicycles provided by president Kagame will enhance performance.
“This is a great support. We will preserve integrity and boost performance,” she said.
Community mediators started operating in 2004 as a way of facilitating access to justice and reduce cases filed with courts.Today the country has about 17,000 community mediators.
