Employees of Rubaya tea factory acquire firefighting skills

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) ongoing drive against fire outbreak was on July 11 extended to 52 employees of Rubaya tea factory in Ngororero District, who were given practical skills on how to use varied gadgets to prevent and put out fire.

The District Police Commander of Ngororero, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Marc Gasangwa, while speaking to the staff at the tea factory, urged the management to take appropriate measures to prevent fires.

“You have to be prepared against any likely disaster like fire, that is why Rwanda National Police, we are here to teach you how to use any firefighting gadget you acquire,” SSP Gasangwa said.

He urged them to always conduct periodic inspections of their electricity connections and acquire quality electric equipment that can stand and accommodate all their machines.

“One of the causes of fire outbreak is short circuit sometimes resulting from over loading the electricity system which is sometimes substandard or old,” he added.

He appealed to them to share with others the fire fighting skills acquired adding that such basic knowledge and skills help in prevention and fighting.

One of the skills they were equipped with include the use of fire extinguishers, sand and water.

He advised them to always disconnect all the gadgets when they finish their work and utilize the Rwanda National Police communication channels if they witness any fire outbreak either at work or where they live.
