Gakenke nurse in baby theft scandal

A nurse at Ruli Hospital in Gakenke district is suspected of having stolen a new born baby of Nzamwitakuze Brigitte who gave birth at the hospital on Monday 22nd August, 2016.

It is said that the nurse lied to the mother that the newly born baby had died, handed her a box in which they found a toy and two stones as they went for burial.

The police spokesperson in Northern Province, IP Gasasira Innocent has told IGIHE that he arrived at Ruli Hospital where the incident took place and are awaiting examinations. The nurse explained that she had also given to birth.

“I am with nurses at Ruli hospital. We are waiting for medical tests outcomes because the suspected culprit said she also gave birth the previous night,” he said.
