A 42-year old man, Iyakaremye Jean Bosco living in Ntungamo village in Rumuri cell of Muhura sector, Gatsibo district in Eastern Province has fled the area after allegedly stabbing his second wife, Mukeshimana Pelagie, 22, to death.

IGIHE has learnt that the unfortunate incident took place around 19:00 hours yesterday.

This surprised neighbors as they had never heard of any conflicts in couple’s home.

The Eastern Province spokesperson, IP Emmanuel Kayigi has confirmed the murder adding that the suspect, Iyakaremye Jean Bosco, resident of Ntungamo is being sought to assist police in investigations.

“ Both the deceased and the suspected were in a bar .When they left , the woman saw the man holding a knife and told him that they are not walking together as long as he continues to hold the knife. They kept walking together and the man stabbed the woman in chest as they walked along. Neighbors took the woman to hospital but died along the way. The suspect escaped,” he said.

“I advise residents to avoid such illegal marriages of second wives since people living together under such circumstances don’t value one another. Indeed they are not protected by law,” added the police spokesperson.

If found and convicted of the crime, the suspect is liable to a life sentence as per article 140 of Rwanda penal code.
