The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Louise Mushikiwabo has said that Rwanda can no longer tolerate France arrogance and adamant stance on denying their role in killing Rwandans adding that the country will soon release more details on the role of French leaders in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
In a press conference yesterday, Mushikiwabo explained that Rwanda did its best to recover bilateral relations between both countries but France always brought the relations into jeopardy.
“The relations between Rwanda and France were affected by negative deeds and the role of France as a country and particularly some leaders in French government; soldiers, politicians’ role in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi,” she said.
“It is not a secret. France supported the (Rwanda) government that killed a million of its citizens. It has been researched across the entire World whether in France, Rwanda and other corners of the World. This is not a secret.” she added.
Minister Muhikiwabo explained that Rwanda knew that relations with France would soar over its involvement in 1994 genocide.
She explained this prompted Rwanda to normalize bilateral relations but later realized that France is not committed to ensuring good relations with Rwanda.
“Rwanda as a country, it is time for us to say that actions, behavior, absence of regret, assault and deeds of France are no longer to be tolerated in this country. We have tried possible alternatives to recover relations with France in the past hard times but the more we stepped forward, the more France stepped back” she said.
Plane shooting investigation
Mushikiwabo explained that reopening investigations into the shooting of the plane of former president Juvenal Habyarimana is a manifestation of the many wrong intentions of France.
“Let me say two things regarding the shooting down of the former president’s airplane. Firstly, genocide was not triggered by the shooting of the airplane and there are evidences proving it. Genocide was planned before but was waiting for the trigger to start. Secondly, apart from Rwanda, France was the first country well positioned in the preparations of genocide in the 1990s,”she said.
“France had advisers of the government that planned the genocide. It had military advisers and trainers of government soldiers and the group involved in genocide, it helped in intelligence services; all these are evidences. There are names, faces, these are not imaginary things,” she added.
Names of politicians involved in genocide to be released
Mushikiwabo said that Rwanda will soon release all details of French politicians and leaders involved in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
“ In the near future and coming years, we want, as a country, to release all information detailing the role of various France leaders, soldiers, politicians, intelligence and others involved in the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, ,” she said.
The National Commission for the Fight Against genocide (CNLG) has recently released a list of 22 French soldiers involved in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
