Kagame to meet AU overhaul team

President Paul Kagame and a team of nine experts that will help to design the outlook of the African Union commission are expected to meet in Kigali on Monday 31st October, 2016.

The team includes experts in economics, politics and commerce on African continent from public and private institutions.

A statement issued by the presidency of Rwanda of 18th October, 2016 indicates that the team will meet president Kagame for the first time.

Those expected to meet Kagame include Rwandan Dr. Donald Kaberuka, the former President of the African Development Bank, and Dr Acha Leke – a Senior Partner at McKinsey & Co.; Dr. Carlos Lopes, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Strive Masiyiwa – Executive Chairman of Econet Wireless, and Tito Mboweni, former Governor of the South African Reserve Bank.

Others include a team of women : J. Mohammed – Nigeria’s Minister of Environment; Mariam Mahamat Nour – the Chadian Minister of Economy, Planning, and International Cooperation; Cape Verde’s Cristina Duarte – the Former Minister of Finance and Planning, and Cameroonian economist Vera Songwe, the Regional Director for West and Central Africa at the International Finance Corporation.

President Kagame was assigned to lead the African Union overhaul during the African Union Summit held in Kigali recently from 10th to 18th July, 2016. Outcomes from his team’s interventions will be presented to the meeting of heads of states in January 2017.

Reforms being undertaken in the administration of African Union will explain clearly the structure and define responsibilities based on existing plans among others.
