Kayonza school head held on student rape charges

Police in Gatsibo District are holding the head teacher of Kayonza Vocational School suspected of raping a twenty-year-old student.

It is alleged that the said teacher on 18th October, as a guest at Resort Hotel in Gatsibo district used trickery and force under the pretext of supervising, to have involuntary carnal knowledge with the girl who is on internship at the facility.

Speaking to IGIHE, the Eastern Region Police Spokesperson, IP Jean De Dieu Kayihura said that after the unfortunate, the victim reported the case to Police which immediately arrested the suspect.

“The student reported him to Police and is now being held at Kabarore Police Station as his case file is being processed for submission to prosecution this Monday” he said.

If the suspect is found guilty of rape, according to article 197 of the penal code, he shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of more than five to seven years
