The Mayor of the District of Nyarugenge in Kigali City, Mukasonga has warned residents to stop building houses in areas prone to disasters.
The city considers such as illegal activities.
Residents who have built houses on Mont Kigali have been asked to relocate as soon as possible.
Last year the Government launched a campaign aimed at relocating all activities in Critical areas such as wetlands.
It was noted people living in such places are most likely to face disasters owed to environmental changes.
However, residents continue to increasingly build houses in such areas.
According to Kigali City the relocation of residents who live in the areas prone to disasters will cost around Rwf 40 billion.
