A man identified as Ruganintwari Fulgence, 50, has been arrested and being held at Kiyumba police station in Muhanga district over alleged murder of his wife Mukashyaka Christine, 40, after hacking her with an axe on the head.
The mayor of Muhanga district, Uwamariya Beatrice has told IGIHE that Mukashyaka was killed Saturday night around 19:00 hours with the death suspected to have resulted from domestic disputes.
“They had clashes related to disputes over family resources management. On Saturday, their families had come for mediation and left without reaching consensus, only to hear the husband killed the wife at night,” she said.
Ruganintwari pleaded guilty before members of the public.
Mayor Uwamariya said that Ruganintwari was once jailed for involvement in the 1994 genocide against Tutsi and was later released in 2003 after he apologized.
Their family has three children of whom the eldest is 11 years followed by a 2 and 5 year-old respectively.
IGIHE has learnt that Ruganintwari had asked his late wife Mukashyaka Christine to subscribe for Mutuelle de santé for three children he produced outside wedlock which might have intensified the disputes.
