Rwanda female beach volley pair of Valentine and Penelope Musabyimana and Valentine Munezero made history, storming the Semi-finals of the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games on Friday in Nassau Bahamas.
The pair reached the semis after winning three games out of five gamesplayed; they later lost a resilient and solid Australian side made up of Rebecca Ingram and Van Rensburg by 2-0 set.
Australia was a better side as they won both sets by(21-12, 21-11) to seal victory to the finals against New Zealand that beat Scotland by 2-0(21-12, 21-20) on Sunday
Rwanda will now face Scotland to try and win bronze in the second play-off game on Saturday at 10:00 am.
The Rwandan pair lost a match in the four games they have played after failing to brush aside New Zealand in the second game by losing 2-0 (21-10,21-19) beforehand they faced off Trinidad Tobago 2-1(21-17),21-16 an d15-13) in the opening game before booking a date with Australia on Friday.
They later beat Saint Lucia by winning 2-0 (21-15, 21-17, 21-7) to clinch a third win to book a ticket to the Semi’s against Australia on Friday.
Rwanda is also represented by another young start E0rnestHabiyambere in the male category. He could failed to reached second round after losing to Mathew Stubbings from Papua Guinea by 2-0 (6-2, 6-3).
In the other semi-final, New Zealand will take on Scotland at 7:40pm.
The youth quadrennial games that attracted 70 nations and territories with up to 1300 athletes aged 14-18, started on July 19 and will come to a climax July 23,
