Heads of different youth groups, community policing committees and cooperatives that operate in Shingiro sector of Musanze District have been challenged to actively work with residents in detecting, fighting and preventing crime through sharing information with the police.
The call was made by the District Police Commander (DPC) of Musanze, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Felix Bizimana, in a meeting held with over 130 community leaders, recently.
“You represent the community and a force multiplier; you represent police where we can’t be and sharing information on anything unlawful in communities where you live or walk will ease timely response and prevention,” SSP Bizimana said.
He went on to add that for sustainable security to be realized, the concept of information sharing among the people, leaders and security organs has to be a culture.
He noted that strong cooperation creates a bond that can’t be broken by criminals, who want to commit crimes.
Most commonly cited crimes committed in Shingiro sector include, drug consumption, assault and Gender Based Violence, which he urged them to give emphasis in the fighting crime.
