Four cows in Murama cell, Nyamata sector of Bugesera district have been killed after unidentified people fed them on feeds splashed with acid.

The incident is said to have happened on September 8th, 2016.

Owners of the cows told the media that they are not aware of the reasons behind such an evil act. They say they had not received any warning from neighbors that they grazed and or destroyed their crops.

“Three of the four killed cows were mine. They could be valued at Rwf 1, 500, 000,” said one resident.

“Our cows didn’t graze on neighbors’ crops and we never received any warning that our cows grazed in their gardens,” added another cow owner.

The veterinary officer of Bugesera district, Kayitankore Leonidas has said that they tested the cows and found that they had been poisoned which prompted them to burn and bury them to avoid endangering people’s lives if eaten.

“After hearing the incident we came to conduct tests to establish the cause of these cows’ deaths. We realized that people poured acid on grasses the cows ate. In the location, we found dry grasses where they had poured the acid,” he said.

Two suspects have been arrested by police.
