The Rwanda Nation Police (RNP) Traffic and Road Safety Department has appealed to passengers and the public in general to report drivers who breach traffic regulations and put people’s lives at risk.
The call was made on July 27 by new TRS spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kabanda, who pointed out that most of the road accidents are due to recklessness and in particular over speeding of drivers.
“Matters to do with road safety should not be left to the Police alone, the public and passengers in particular should come on board and the more we put efforts together the more we reduce accidents,” said CIP Kabanda.
His reaction was in line with three recent accidents in Nyamasheke, Kicukiro, and Gasabo districts which claimed one person and injured five others.
The fatal accident happened in Kicukiro where a Toyota Carina plate number RAB 252X knocked and killed a commercial motorcyclists.
All the accidents were, however, caused by reckless drivers, CIP Kabanda said.
“This is why we encourage people to always report such reckless drivers by calling our toll free line 113 and 112 or contact us through our twitter account (@RWTrafficUpdate)” said the Traffic and Road Safety Department spokesperson.
