Police intercept stolen motorcycle, suspect arrested

Police in Bugesera District have intercepted a motorcycle which was being taken to Burundi by the suspected thieves.

The motorcycle RD 308F, was intercepted in the night of January 20 in Gatanga Cell of Ruhuha Sector by the police which was conducting its routine night patrol.

It had been reportedly stolen from the owner in the City of Kigali by one Jean Marie Vianney Uzayisenga, who was arrested with the motorcycle.

Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, Inspector of Police (IP) Emmanuel Kayigi said that during the routine police patrol in Gatanga, Uzayisenga noticed the patrol and turned off the head lights.

“He switched off the lights to hide from the patrols, but the officers also suspected something was not right, they came towards him and he got off the motorcycle and attempted to flee but he was pursued and apprehended, ” said IP Kayigi.

The suspect currently detained at Ruhuha Police station, admitted to the crime, said he stole the motorcycle on January 18 from a parking yard in Kimironko, and was apparently taking it to Burundi where he was to get a buyer.

IP Kayigi said that they have so far located the owner of the motorcycle.

He warned against any criminal acts and appealed to the general public to always be vigilant and reported anyone suspected of engaging in unlawful acts.
