Two women have been arrested separately in Police operations in Nyabihu District after they were intercepted with over 7600 pellets of cannabis.
One of the suspects, Chantal Uwamahoro was apprehended on September 9 in Bigogwe Sector with 6081 rolls of cannabis.
According to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Theobard Kanamugire, Police Spokesperson for the Western Region, Uwamahoro was arrested following information provided by residents.
“After we received information, Uwamahoro was located and trailed until she was arrested red-handed in Kora Cell of Bigogwe Sector; the narcotics were concealed in a suck like it was a normal luggage,” CIP Kanamugire said.
“We have since established that she got the narcotics from someone in Rubavu District and was supposed to sell them in Mukamira centre in Nyabihu,” he added, noting that investigations are still underway to locate and apprehend anyone that could be connected to this criminal act.
Meanwhile, another suspect; Sofia Akingeneye was also arrested in Kora Cell with over 1600 pellets of cannabis.
According to CIP Kanamugire, increased ownership and information sharing between the public and the police has continued to play a significant role in identifying, locating and arresting suspected wrongdoers and drug dealers in particular.
