President Paul Kagame yesterday met a delegation from Wharton School of Business, based in the United States including graduate students and members of the faculty in Village Urugwiro. The team is on a business tour, in the country to explore areas in which they can partner with Rwanda in business.

The Wharton School is the business school of the University of Pennsylvania.
It is the maiden such visit since earlier visits would see only students from the Wharton School coming to Rwanda.

The CEO of Rwanda Development Board, Francis Gatare said that many employees of Wharton school and graduated students demonstrated interest of learning much more about Rwanda as President Paul Kagame held a talk at the school in a visit to US last year in September.

He explained that at the time, president Kagame invited them to come to Rwanda and experience ongoing country’s transformations and working with authorities to establish cooperation with the school or its graduates having attained tremendous success in business or job creation.

“ They are visiting the country for more than one week to interact with people and know much more about the country. They hope such talks can be fruitful in investment and business, cooperation between Rwanda’s schools and Wharton School of Business even though the most important is partnership with Rwandans,” said Gatare.

The deputy head of Wharton School, Prof Catherine J. Klein said that the school has been bringing students to Rwanda but have now extended to coming with employees and friends to explore more opportunities.

“There is nothing new but I can say that this delegation has been satisfied with development we have witnessed in Rwanda. They are encouraged by commitment and attained transformations over 22 years and we hope many people across the world, heads of business institutions will come to support ongoing developments of Rwanda and private sector,” she said.

In May ,2016 ,president Kagame received 33 students from Wharton School who came to learn from Rwanda’s governance transformations and its development.
Wharton School is one of eight potential business schools from Pennsylvania connected to Ivy League Association.

These include Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth University, Harvard University, Pennsylvania University [where Wharton is embedded], Princeton University and Yale University.

The visit that started yesterday is expected to strengthen cooperation of Rwanda’s education sector with Wharton school, promoting financial education among university students, boost investments transforming citizens’ welfare and job creation in general.
