The Minister of Local Government (MINALOC), Francis Kaboneka has requested the youth to maximize available opportunities and maintain the country’s achievements by resisting those undermining the attained progress through social media platforms.
Kaboneka made the request yesterday in an event of mobilizing the youth to actively participate in upcoming presidential elections slated for August 2017.
The event was organized by Miss Rwanda 2016 Mutesi Jolly.
“You are lucky for you were born in a good country. At our time, we were refugees and would hardly access education. You have opportunities of benefiting from organized forums where you meet to share ideas. You have to preserve the achievements and resist those who are always painting a gloomy picture of our country. You have to prove them wrong,” he said.
The commander of Rwanda Defense Forces in Rubavu and Nyabihu districts, Col Kayumba Alexis told the youth that Rwanda overcame the dark past.
“I was at your age in 1990. I returned to Rwanda believing the country was full of safety and progress as told by parents. I however witnessed something different as I was welcomed by bullets. I am now witnessing the beauty of the country having done away with the volatile past. Transformations are apparent,” he said.
Miss Mutesi Jolly requested the youth to be vigilant as they support a candidate of their choice during the upcoming elections.
“Fellow youth, we are the strength of the nation. We are the ones who destroyed it, liberated it and rebuilding it. Let’s join hands to preserve achievements. You have to be cautious against seductions from politicians as you make choice for whom to support in presidential polls. You have to elect the one who guarantees security, education and good governance,” she said.
Miss Rwanda 2016 Mutesi Jolly plans to tour the country mobilizing the youth during the pre-election period.
She was accompanied by Miss Rwanda 2017 Iradukunda Elsa during the launch of the campaign in Rubavu district, Western Province.
