The awareness campaign to educate school children on the proper way of using roads and meaning of road traffic signs was extended to pupils of Groupe Scolaire Kabaya in Musanze District on October 21.
The District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), Inspector of Police (IP) Viateur Ntiyamira and the Officer in Charge of Traffic in the Musanze, IP Etienne Kabera took the pupils through various theory and practical traffic rules and regulations.
“Whenever we educate you on how to use roads, we are trying to keep you safe; you are the future of our country that’s why your safety matters. Always look both sides before crossing the road and refrain from reckless crossing, use zebra crossing and watch out for each other,” IP Kabera told the pupils.
Besides the road usage, pupils were also sensitized on major crimes like drug abuse and their effects to the society where the DCLO, IP Ntiyamira, reminded them that drugs not only wreck families but also affect the children and have a close link to several other crimes like assault, rape and theft.
“For your own safety, you must not let any drug abuse go unpunished. Whenever you encounter one, inform the police or other relevant authorities immediately,” said IP Ntiyamira.
