Police in Rubavu District has appealed to casual laborers operating in the district to shun and fight all acts of criminality.
The call was made recently by the District Community Liaison Officer Inspector of Police (IP) Solange Nyiraneza while speaking to hundreds of casual workers.
“As stakeholders, your role in crime prevention is very important. Excessive consumption of alcohol and drug abuse are among the major causes of crimes. You cannot take rational decisions when you are under the influence of substances,” she said.
She lauded the existing partnership between some sections of casual workers with police especially in sharing credible information on wrongdoers.
IP Nyiraneza reminded them that drug trade and consumption are illegal and punishable under Rwanda Penal Code, and a health hazard.
She said that over drinking and drug consumption can lead to crimes such as child abuse and domestic violence, and fighting.
Evariste Ngizimana the head of the casual workers cooperative in Rubavu expressed commitment of cooperative members against criminality.
He also reiterated the dangers of substance abuse before promising that all those involved in crime shall be advised to change less which reported to police.
He urged his colleagues to strive to identify what is likely to cause insecurity and share timely information so that the incidences are prevented rather than dealing with consequences.
