Plans to establish a model village in Ndoranyi cell of Mudende sector have been rescinded and a decision taken to, instead, relocate the facility to Nyundo sector, following a dispute over land which Mudende residents declined to release saying it is the staple of their livelihood.
Mudende residents had complained to the executive secretary of Western Province, Jabo Paul who said that the message of building the model village might have been wrongly conveyed and therefore ill-perceived.
Following citizens’ complaints, Rubavu district officials decided to relocate construction of the model village from Mudende to Bahimba cell of Nyundo sector.
As a way of getting residents appreciate the project, representatives have taken a tour to existing model village in Bugesera where residents from disaster prone zones in Mazane and Sharita islands were relocated to witness the developments.
The mayor of Rubavu district, Sinamenye Jérémie says that they couldn’t superimpose the project onto residents for it is supposed to be consultative.
“Citizens have a major role in services availed to them. Mudende residents declined construction of the model village on their land which made us relocate it to Nyundo sector in a locality with no access to infrastructures,” he said.
