Rwanda is set to destroy 49 tons of old military tools including bullets, grenades and guns as a way of avoiding harm they may pose to the environment.

IGIHE has learnt that these arms will be burnt on Thursday 28thJuly, 2016 in Gabiro Combat Training Center where the act is supposed to be controlled by Regional Centre on Small Arms.

The Regional Centre on Small Arms was established in 2015 with the aim of addressing the matter of increasing small and nuclear guns which are not licensed.

Burning old guns will not be held for the first time in Rwanda. 160 tons of bullets from Rwanda Defense Force store were burnt in 2008 while 40 tons were burnt in 2011.

RDF had planned to burn old arms five times including 1, 270 mines and 53,337 other arms.
