Rwanda Welcomes ICTR Acquittals
Published on 21-02-2013 - at 00:38' by Dusabemungu Ange De La Victoire

Rwanda Minister of Justice Tharcisse Karugarama has told the ICTR officials that Rwanda is ready to welcome and provide judicial documents to all of those people that the Court has approved their innocence.

The announcement was made during the discussions held between Rwanda Minister of Justice and Bongani Majola, The Registrar of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR).

Karugarama revealed that Rwanda was grieved against recent decisions by the ICTR Appeals Chamber to overturn the guilty convictions of two former cabinet ministers namely Justin Mugenzi who headed the trade docket and Prosper Mugiraneza, the former minister of public service.

However, Karugarama said Rwanda has no other choice but to be what the ICTR wants Rwanda to be.

Apart from those two acquittals, Karugarama noted that even some others who were proclaimed to be innocents and fled to other countries are free to return to their native country adding that even those that Gacaca has proved their innocence are now building their Country.

Bongani has in turn announced that he had come to Rwanda to discuss how best partnerships should be strengthened between Rwanda and the ICTR.

Comments

Very shrewd response by Karugarama (Attorney General) because life sometimes means having to roll with the punches......

In any case — sooner or later — guilt catches up with justice.
