Rwandan peacekeepers decorated in Darfur

Rwanda peacekeepers (Rwanbatt 45) serving under the United Nations-African Union Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), Sector Central were decorated with medals in recognition of their professionalism and gallant service in carrying out their duties. The ceremony was held on 6 September 2016 at Rwanbatt45 headquarters in Zalingei, Darfur.

Presiding over the event, the Head UNAMID joint office in Zalingei, Mr. Lamech Kawich commended Rwanbatt45 for the job well done, for the last 9 months. “UNAMID leadership is proud of the performance you have exhibited while serving in this mission, congratulations,” Mr Kawich said.

He hailed Rwanda peacekeepers for being professional and exemplary while protecting civilians in peacekeeping mission.

In his remarks, the Rwanbatt45 Commanding Officer, Lt Col David Murenzi thanked other Military and Police contingents under UNAMID for good cooperation with Rwanda Peacekeepers. He congratulated the Rwanbatt45 for noble contribution to the efforts of the international community in bringing peace in Darfur.

The Ceremony was attended by different dignitaries including the Rwandan Chargé d’Affaires to the Republic of Sudan, Mr. Ismail Shyaka, UNAMID officials including the Sector Central Commander, local leaders and surrounding population.
