Over 400 guests, including friends of Rwandans, Turkish Government Representatives, Ambassadors, Turkish business community and Rwandans living in Turkey on Tuesday marked the 23rd Liberation Day.

The Rwandan Ambassador in Turkey, Williams Nkurunziza expressed gratitude to the Turkish Minister of Science, Industry, and Technology of Turkey Faruk Özlü and other guests for gracing the event and commended the excellent relations and friendship between the two countries.

As a reminder, Amb Nkurunziza said that over the first 32 years of independence, Rwanda remained in a state of despotism until1994 when the repression was put to an end.

“In the 32 years of post-independence to liberation on July 4th, Rwanda and Rwandans were still enslaved in political hatred until when President Kagame and others led the country from the ashes of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.”

Turkish Minister Turkey Faruk Özlü thanked the current government for the sacrifice made during the liberation struggle.
