Rwf18.7billion wasted in fraudulent transactions

Funds amounting to Rwf18.7billion have been identified to have been misused in fraudulent transactions, expenditure without supporting docs, wasteful expenditure, negligence, ineligible staff benefits and allowances among districts and government institutions.

This has been revealed today by the Auditor General of government institutions, Obadhiah Biraro, as he presented the 2014/2015 audit report to Senate Committee on Economic Development and Finance.

The Auditor General informed Senators that most of the delayed or abandoned contracts were identified in districts and GBEs/ Boards.

Of the 77 delayed or abandoned contracts reported, 61 contracts worth 122.5b had not yet been handed over by time of 2014/15 audit.

The Auditor General said that some districts also didn’t implement audit report recommendations for the previous year adding that the level of implementing OAG recommendations declined in Boards & GBEs.

The audit indicated pointed out REG/WASAC, REB, University of Rwanda and RBC among institutions having issues resulting from failure to implement recommendations of the General Auditor.
