A motorcycle which was stolen recently in Nyagatare District has been recovered in Kirehe District.
The commercial motorcycle registration number RB 059G, was recovered from one Donatien Ndizeye, 23, who has since been taken into custody.
The motorcycle stolen a fortnight ago in Nyagatare was found in Gasarabwayi cell in Musaza Sector.
The District Police Commander of Kirehe, Supt. James Rutaremara said: “We had received information from our counterparts in Nyagtare, which we dispatched among the residents and motorcyclists in Kirehe.”
“On Thursday, we received information from one resident, who saw the motorcycle in Musaza and that’s how we managed to recover it and arrest the prime suspect,” the DPC said.
On the day when the motorcycle was stolen in Karangazi trading centre, Ndizeye requested the victim to give him the motorcycle for a ride.
However, Ndizeye disappeared with the motorcycle until November 17 when he was located and arrested in Kirehe with the motorcycle.
“He was apparently in the process of selling it when one of those he had attempted to sell it to became suspicious and decided to inform the police,” Supt. Rutaremara said.
He commended the vigilance of the resident who provided the information and appealed to the general public to always cross-check and verify before buying things to avoid buying stolen items.
