Rwanda National Police (RNP) has today morning shot dead three suspected terrorists in a targeted Police operation in Bugarama Sector of Rusizi District.
The deceased are among a group of six suspects who turned violent resisting arrest by Police.

Those killed during the operation have been identified as Eric Mbarushimana, Hassan Nkwaya and Mussa Bugingo, who succumbed to injuries later in the hospital. They are residents of Kamonyi and Kicukiro districts.

Another Shafi Cyiza who sustained injuries is currently getting medical attention before further legal proceedings. Lafiffah Morina, and Abubakar Ngabonziza are currently in Police custody pending further investigations.

The operation was facilitated by a tip-off from members of the public, who informed Police of a group of six individuals, who had spent about two weeks in an isolated house allegedly conducting radicalisation activities.

During the operation to arrest the suspects, they turned violent, issued threats and attempted to flee when three of them were shot.

Initial findings indicate that they were in a radicalisation campaign aimed at recruiting jihadists. Radicalisation materials including audio CDs and text books were seized from the house.

RNP wishes to inform the public that safety and security will continue to prevail and appeals to residents to share timely information that can assist Police to pursue and break up existing terror networks.

RNP further reassures the general population and residents of Rusizi in particular that operations are complete and situation is back to normal.
