On Saturday 24 September Tigo Rwanda provided Mutuelle de santé for 410 residents from Gataraga and Gashaki Sector who were unable to afford health care. The handover of the medical insurance cards took place in Gataraga Sector following the monthly Umuganda communal cleaning exercise that Tigo staff joined Musanze District residents and leadership in doing.
This donation, worth Frw.1.2 million, is part of ‘Turahabaye’, a countrywide campaign to celebrate seven years of Tigo in Rwanda. Tigo first entered the Rwandan market in 2009; since then it has been transforming lives throughout the country by offering telecommunication and digital services to Rwandans.
The Turahabaye campaign, which commenced on 16, September in Rwamagana consists of free concerts, meetings with private and public sector partners and corporate responsibility initiatives. It will come to a close in Kigali on 15, October.
Commenting on the donation, Tigo Rwanda Head of Legal and External Affairs, Sandra Cyamweshi, who was representing the Chief Executive Officer, said “As a company working in Rwanda, we believe that it is our responsibility to take care of the most vulnerable among us and that is why we are very pleased to be able to ensure that 400 vulnerable people now have access to health care.
Thanking Tigo Rwanda for the donation the Mayor of Musanze District, Jean Claude Musabyimana, said; “This will help improve the lives of the people living in Gataraga and Gashaki Sectors. The residents of this area had suffered from flooding and were not able to afford Mutuelle de santé because they were not able to harvest any crops. This donation will allow them to get health care like everyone else”.
Following the Umuganda, Tigo hosted a free concert for Musanze residents at the Umuhoza Salle Polyvalente community hall. Over jubilant 1,000 Musanze residents were entertained by the Tigo Brand Ambassadors Bruce Melodie, Christopher and the Dream Boys.
