Two men have been arrested separately in for allegedly attempting to offer bribes to local leaders, after they were caught in unlawful acts.
One of the suspects identified as Marcel Baziyaka, 31, was arrested in Kigali sector of Nyarugenge District.
It is said that Baziyaka was earlier on found by the cell executive secretary constructing a house illegally and when he was instructed to demolish it, the former instead tried to offer him Rwf20, 000 to reverse the decision.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Emmanuel Hitayezu the central police spokesperson Baziyaka kept on pressing the local leader for a meeting.
“Doubtful of his intentions, the executive secretary alerted police who indeed caught Baziyika red-handed handing over the money to the local leader,” said SP Hitayezu
SP Hitayezu warned the public against trying to corrupt leaders.
Elsewhere, Daniel Habimana 31, a resident of Ruharambuga Sector in Nyamasheke District was also arrested on January 10 after he allegedly tried to bribe a local official with Rwf50, 000 to have his children enlisted on the education sponsorship list.
