The ongoing police crackdown on forgery of road traffic related documents led to the arrest of two men, on September 23, who are believed to be part of the ring that forges and distributes driver’s license.

Cyprien Muvunyi, 34, and Felix Niyibizi were caught red-handed in…following investigations largely facilitated by the general public through information sharing.

They are currently detained at Nyarugenge Police station pending further investigations.

The arrest comes barely a week after other four people suspected of involving in the same crime, were also arrested in Nyarugenge and four forged permits recovered from them.

Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, Supt. Emmanuel Hitayezu warned that the crackdown on such malpractices will be intensified.

“Muvunyi and Niyibizi were caught red-handed in an internet café in Nyabugogo, where we have since established that it is their base where they were forging licenses. At the time, they were forging a license for a motorcyclist, who had already paid them,” Supt. Hitayezu said.

“Locating and arresting wrongdoers who forge traffic related documents in particular including people who pose as police brokers and those who forge mechanical inspection certificates, is actually easier because of the public ownership and giving us credible information,” he said.
