Two executive secretaries arrested

Two sector executive secretaries including Tuyisenge Henriette of Kibeho and Nsanzintwali Célestin Rusenge sectors in Nyaruguru of district, Southern Province are detained under police custody over misappropriation of resources meant for Girinka and VUP programs.

They were arrested after residents’ complaints accusing the two leaders to have solicited bribes in distribution and selling cows in Girinka program at a time when they were cell executive secretaries.

The police spokesperson in Southern Province, Hubert Gashagaza has told IGIHE that they were arrested on Monday.

“Both sector executive secretaries were arrested on Monday over alleged crimes of misappropriating Girinka and VUP fund. They are held as police as investigation is underway,” he said.

The mayor of Nyaruguru district, Habitegeko François has called on leaders to work for the interest of citizens other than selfish ends.

“The duo is being investigated. I request other local leaders to fulfill their duties perfectly working for public interest and avoid misusing the fund allocated to support vulnerable people,” he said.

The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Vincent Munyeshyaka recently told IGIHE that misappropriated government funds will be made to refund.

Police says that many local leaders have been arrested over alleged misallocation of vulnerable people’s support even though no exact numbers have been disclosed.
