UN decorates Rwanda peacekeepers in Darfur

Rwanda Peacekeepers (RWABATT46) serving under the United Nations-African Union Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) were decorated with the United Nations Peacekeeping Medal, in recognition of their professionalism and gallant service in carrying out the UNAMID mandate, for the last 11 months. The medal decoration ceremony was held at Rwabatt46 Headquarters in Kabkabia, on 27 October 2016.

Presiding over the colourful event, the UNAMID Force Commander, Lt Gen Frank M KAMANZI commended Rwanda Peacekeepers invaluable contribution to UNAMID.

“UNAMID congratulates you. The medal you have received is a symbol of your commitment, sacrifices, and devotion. You are now the good ambassadors of peace all over the world, and you can be proud of being part of this effort, specifically here in Darfur. I wish to recognise your commitment and peace effort demonstrated while discharging your mandate and tasks”, the UNAMID Force Commander said.

Gen Kamanzi further noted that the accomplished peacekeeping duties would remain of the greatest value to all UNAMID family members, and to the Sudanese People, the prime beneficiaries.

In his remarks, the Rwanbatt46 Commander, Lt Col James K GAKUBA also congratulated Rwanbatt46 Officers and Men for their discipline and professionalism.

“Today’s event marks another milestone in our lives as Peacekeepers. I am pleased to note that the awarded medals will be considered as an extraordinary added value to our motivation, renewed commitment to the protection of civilians while discharging other duties as required by the UNAMID mandate”, Col Gakuba said.

Lt Col James K GAKUBA also thanked all invited Guests, Kabkabia leadership and residents for their support to the Peacekeepers.

Besides the UNAMID Force Commander, the ceremony was attended by other dignitaries including, UNAMID Sector North Commander Brig Gen Amgad MORSY, UNAMID Military and Police Officials among others.
