US embassy vehicle involved in fatal accident, leaves two dead

A vehicle belonging to the US embassy in Rwanda, yesterday hit a bicycle carrying three children leaving two of them dead and one injured.

The executive secretary of Giheke sector, Rusizi district, Nsabimana Theogene has told IGIHE that the incident took place yesterday around at 2.00pm at the border between Rusizi and Nyamasheke districts.

“ It was around 14:00 hours when the vehicle belonging to US embassy in Rwanda heading for Rusizi collided with a bicycle carrying three children in Rwumvangoma village of Giheke cell of Giheke sector in Rusizi district. Two of them died instantly,” he said.

He explained that both occupants of the car, including Ambassador Erica J. Barks-Ruggles were not affected and rushed to report the incident to the police as soon as it happened.

The traffic police started investigations to establish the cause of the accident.
