The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Louise Mushikiwabo has said that Rwanda has congratulated Donald Trump for winning US presidential elections adding that it left lessons to many countries especially those rooted on the fact that power belongs to the citizens of their respective countries.

She noted this yesterday in a press conference, a day after Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton to win US presidential elections.

Mushikiwabo said that through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they have sent congratulations to the US president-elect, by citizens who held elections as they wished.

She explained that the elections leave many lessons especially knowing that power belongs to the citizens.

“These elections leave a lesson that politicians should listen to their citizens. It is an important aspect manifested in these elections. It is better to talk to other politicians but thinking about citizens to prioritize their desires. As Rwanda, we have realized that it is the most important pillar and we have been committed to that,” said Mushikiwabo.
