The youth in Kiziguro Sector of Gatsibo District have committed to lead the campaign and fight against trafficking, making, sell and use of narcotic drugs and other illicit substances.

The commitment was made on August 6 during a meeting that brought together the youth organized under ‘Turwanye Ibiyobyabwenge Twitezimbere’ club, members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing (RYVCP) and Police in Gatsibo.

The event which started with a ‘walk against drug abuse’ was characterized by testimonies of former drug dealers and abusers, and community policing poems and songs.

Inspector of Police (IP) Roger Rwakayiro, the District Community Liaison Officer of Gatsibo, while addressing the youth, said fighting drug abuse starts from an individual basis by refraining from any related acts.

“The current safety and security in Rwanda is mainly attributed to community policing and the role the public and the youth in particular play in this noble course; despite some activities that undermine this security and the youth are among them, that’s why your continued partnership is paramount, and must strengthened ” IP Rwakayiro said.

The campaign is expected to continue in all other sectors in Gatsibo.

Gatsibo has about 1200 members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing, group whose activities focuses on community awareness and fight against crimes through promotion of community safety and realising the idea of timely information sharing with security organs.
