Former Amavubi captain, Karekezi Olivier appointed new Rayon Sports head Coach

Rayon Sports FC has appointed former Amavubi skipper Olivier Karekezi as the new head coach.

Olivier signed a two year contract with the league champions that will see him lead the team to defend the 2017/2018 league title.

The deal was signed on Thursday, July 20th. In an interview with Radio Ten Denis Chance Gacinya the Rayon President confirmed the news, saying: “It is official Olivier Karekezi is the new head coach of Rayon.

Karekezi was selected on merit from among other coaches including Andre CassaMbungo for Sunrise FC, as well as former Police fc coach and AS Kigali Jimmy Ndayizeye now with Espoir FC.

The former APR FC and Amavubi skipper obtained a UEFA ‘A License’ in 2014 there after he coached a junior team in Sweden. He replaces DjumaMasudi who spent two years but surprisingly threw in the towel after leading Rayon to the league title on top of the 2015-16 Peace Cup.

Gacinya said that, Karekezi is expected to jet in the country at the end of this July from Sweden where he was staying.

He played for APR fc from (1998-2004), Helsingborg (2005-2007), Hamarkameratene (2007-09), Osters IF (2010-2011), before returning to APR fc in (2011-2012, but then joined Bizertin Athletics Club (2012-13), Trelleborgs FFV (2014) before retiring in RaaIdrettsforening.
