The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K Gasana yesterday hosted Police Football Club and Police Handball Club in an event that was marked with unveiling the football club’s newly signed nine players and celebrating six trophies won by the police handball club in the just concluded season.
The new players boosting up Police FC are Hussein Habimana, Danny Nduwayo Milafa Nizeyimana Celestin Ndayishimiye Amini Mwizerwa, Jean Bosco Akayezu, Antoine Dominique Ndayishimiye, Christophe Biramahire and Olivier Usabimana.
Also introduced was the three-man technical crew made up of Police FC’s new head coach, Innocent Seninga, his assistant Justin Bisengimana and Claude Maniraho as goalkeeper’s coach.
“the only way you are going to be a winning team is to have an ambition and focus on achieving it. Remember Rwandans out there want to see you winning, do not disappoint them,” the Police Chief who is also the honorary president of the two teams said.
He added that; “We want a winning team, the one that gives pride to the force.”
Colonel (rtd) Louis Twahirwa Dodo, the team’s chairman commended the continued support by RNP leadership to the Police FC.
“The new blood in the team will boost the squad in terms of playing and coaching and preparation for the 2016/2017 season; this will as well cover up the gap left by some of the players who committed their future to other clubs next season,” he said.
Twahirwa asked players to make good use of the support from RNP leadership to ensure the team wins next season’s trophy and urged them to show much commitment and enthusiasm while at the pitch.
In a related development, the handball reigning champions, Police Handball Club celebrated the expansion of their trophy cabinet presenting to RNP leadership six trophies.
The trophies presented to RNP leadership include; the National Championship 2015, Carré Das cup 2015, Beach Handball Cup 2015, Central Africa Handball Federation (ECAHF), 2015 Heroes cup 2016 and the International Genocide Memorial Tournament trophy 2016.
The four-time national league champions – 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015 has set the record in the handball arena as the all-time winning champions.
The club chairperson, Donald Kabanda, said that the achievements of the club stemmed from commitment since most of the players are young in the field but driven by passion.
Kabanda presented the trophies won to the Inspector General of Police.
RNP runs the two teams as part of its policing initiatives that brings many fans closer to the force and increases interaction, information sharing and partnership in policing.
