Rwanda national team Amavubi will face Sudan on August 7, 2017, in Kigali in an international friendly match ahead of the third round clash with Uganda in the Nations for African Championship (CHAN) qualifiers between August 11-13.
Sudan who eliminated Burundi to book a place in the third round is expected in Kigali this weekend.
The friendly tie will help Antoine Hey’s side to assess his crop of players whom he will rely on for third round qualifying campaign against Uganda which starts on August 12 with a first leg clash to be staged at St. Mary’s Kitende stadium with the reverse fixture slated for a week later in Kigali.
Sudan is also preparing to face Ethiopia following their 1-0 aggregate win over Burundi in the second round. Ethiopia was granted a 3-0 win in their second leg of the 2018 CAF African Championships Qualifiers on Sunday when Djibouti withdrew their participation.
The encounter was set to be staged at Hawassa Stadium in Ethiopia on Sunday, but the visiting side withdrew ahead of the second leg.
In the wake of Djibouti’s withdrawal prior the return leg, the Walia Ibex were handed a win on a walk over and credited with a 3-0 win.
Ethiopia was in an uncompromising mood in the opening leg against the Shoremen of the Red Sea as they handed them a 5-1 defeat at home at Djibouti City last week.
The 8-1 aggregate score for the Central-East African nation takes them closer to booking a spot in Kenya next year.
Meanwhile, Amavubi started intensive training on Monday Stade de Kigali. Rwanda eliminated Tanzania on 1-1 aggregate following a goalless draw in the second leg, while Uganda knocked out South Sudan 5-1 on aggregate.
The Amavubi team missed out on the inaugural tournament in 2009 but went on to feature in the Sudan edition in 2011 and last year in Rwanda 2016.
