Cyril Ramaphosa was unanimously elected by Parliament after the African National Congress won the elections on 8 May.
South Africa parliament confirmed him on 22nd May 2019. He had taken over from his predecessor Jacob Zuma in February 2018 who resigned on pressure of his political party ANC.
The inauguration of Ramaphosa has also been attended by other heads of states from Eswatini, Congo Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Zimbabwe, Senegal, Uganda, Madagascar, Seychelles, Togo, DRC, Gabon, Angola, Mozambique, Sahrawi Republic, Namibia, Somalia, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Egypt.
