Mount Kenya University Rwanda launched a state of the art swimming pool to serve its students and the general public. The swimming pool located in its new hostel christened Mount Kigali Hostel.
The facility is part of a strategic plan by Mount Kenya University to create a conducive learning environment and also to nurture its students’ sporting talents.
The Hostel has a capacity to accommodate over 100 students. In addition, to the swimming pool, the hostel has a Cafeteria, Free WIFI, Study Villas, Indoor Basket Ball Court, and other indoor entertainment facilities.
Mount Kigali Hostel will alleviate the accommodation problem for students who come from far away places.
In his remark during the ceremony, the Chairman of the University Council, Prof. Simon Gicharu thanked the government for the enabling environment and support and said the university is committed to promoting sport and nurture talent.
The Vice-Mayor Baingana Emmanuel, who was representing the Mayor Dr. Nyirahabimana Jeanne, thanked the University for establishing the facility in the area. He called the local residents to take advantage of the facility.
During the launch, Mount Kenya University in collaboration with Rwanda Swimming Federation organized a swimming competition that attracted several teams in Kigali and outside. The competition comprised of various disciplines from a butterfly, backstroke, freestyle and an individual medley of various age group.
