The correspondent of the Pan African News Agency (PANA) in Rwanda, Aimable Twahirwa, has been named the winner of a competition organised by African Press Organization (APO) that entitles the winner to participate in the AfricaCom 2014, Africa’s leading telecommunications event, 11-13 Nov., the competition organisers announced.

APO, the sole press release newswire in Africa, announced the result in Cape Town, South Africa, on Thursday.

For winning the competition, APO will provide transport, accommodation and sustenance allowances for Twahirwa to travel to Cape Town to cover the entire event.

“It gives us great pleasure in offering this invitation to Aimable, a recognised and influential journalist. As a company, we need to support the journalists out there who fight every day to educate us on the matters of the world,” said Nicolas Pompigne-Mognard, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the APO.

Twahirwa is an award-winning and trained senior science journalist based in Kigali, Rwanda.

During his 15 year- career, he has been covering science and technology.

His early days at Rwanda News Agency (RNA) led him to become the Rwanda correspondent for the Pan African News Agency (PANA), where he has been covering science and technology stories.

Aimable is fluent in both French and English, which made him an influential correspondent for specialised science magazines such like ’Scidev.Net’ and London-based NATURE publications Group.
