The advocacy undertaken by Peace and Hope Initiative has begun to give positive impacts after several agencies, association and NGOs have taken steps to give their support to the Elderly Survivors who live in Kinyinya Genocide Survivors Village.
Deloitte, an international consultancy firm operating in Rwanda is one of the organizations who were interested in helping elderly survivors after hearing the call of Peace and Hope although it is their routine to support Genocide survivors.
On Friday, Manzi Theophile Uwiyizeye who spoke on behalf of the Deloitte delegation that visited and donated to the vulnerable people living in Kinyinya Genocide Survivors Village said “We met with the Founder of Peace and Hope and He told us about the needy people who live in this village. So we decided and visit them as well as give our support.”
Meanwhile Manzi added that “This is the act we conduct every year during the Genocide commemoration season. We support Genocide survivors and orphans. We are here today to join other Rwandans to remember and renew our life toward a brighter future.”
He explained that “This is also an opportunity to advocate for elderly survivors due to many challenges they meet in their daily activities”
Albert Musabyimana, the Legal Representative & Founder of Peace and Hope said “We launched Peace and Hope in order to give our contribution as recognition to the country that cared for us as our parents have been all killed in the Genocide”
“We advocate for orphans, elders who have no means and at the same time we do what we can to enhance the lives of vulnerable children and orphans through education, guidance, and parental care.” Musabyimana added
Musabyimana said since they started advocating for vulnerable people many organizations and people on their own have shown their willing to give their help.
In addition, Musabyimana calls up on whoever has capacity to support elders as they need special care and most of them have no means.
Peace and Hope Initiative is an organization made up of the heads of child headed families who have been playing the parental role for their younger siblings since their parent’s deaths in the 1994 Genocide.
The Organization which operates in Kinyinya Sector of Gasabo District has vowed to advocate for Elderly Genocide Survivors as well as contribute to their wellbeing as most of them need special care due to their health conditions.
