The Institute for Conservation Agriculture will open in July 2019 with headquarters in Gashora sector Bugesera District of Eastern Province.
Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture (RICA) is an English language institution dedicated to educating and inspiring a new generation of agricultural innovators in Rwanda Establishing the Institute is a joint effort of the Government of Rwanda and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, with the University of Nebraska–Lincoln providing leadership in curriculum development and technical advising.
RICA’s year-round curriculum will be a three-year program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Conservation Agriculture.
RICA students will engage in experiential, hands-on learning emphasizing conservation agriculture and One Health principles, oral and written communication, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
Graduates will be problem solvers able to operate farms, start agribusinesses, assume management roles in cooperatives, NGOs, and other agricultural enterprises, and serve their communities as extension agents, technical experts, and policy advisors.
Students at RICA will be exposed to different enterprises including Small Ruminants, Dairy, Poultry and Swine, Row and Forage Crops, Vegetable and Tree Crops, Irrigation and Mechanization.
