Hip-Hop beefs: Art or real-life hatred?
It’s August 11, 1973. We are in the Bronx, a major district in New York. An 18-year-old Clive Campbell, known as DJ Kool Herc, is at his sister’s back-to-school party. The young disc jockey uses a two-record player mixer to extend the beat of a record, isolate the percussion breaks, and switch between the two records. With this experiment, scratching is invented, and hip-hop is born.
