Rwanda's Election Results: How To Make Sense of Kagame's Landslide Victory?
As announced by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) on the night of July 15, Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) candidate Paul Kagame won the presidential elections with 99.15% of the votes, while his opponents, Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party and independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana, together won less than 1% of the votes—results that did not surprise Rwandans.
