Vera Sidika is a Kenyan socialite and entrepreneur who is very blessed when it comes to curves. Many women now especially in Nairobi are aiming to get big curves, to get attention from their male counterparts.

However that is just one part of the female’s struggle for attraction. There are weaves, ridiculously revealing clothes, and just recently, bleaching creams. Just how far is the modern woman willing to go to achieve ‘beauty’?

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all? The thick, light-skinned girl. This is a notion that very many young women, especially in Africa are starting to believe.

In the United States, scores of young women run to plastic surgeons for breast and buttock jobs, which basically increase the size by adding silicon.

The result is attractive, but in the long run, dangerous. A lot of young women look up to celebrities such as reality star Kim Kardashian, who has a well-proportioned body; big breasts, wide hips and a massive derrière.

She has been sexually hyped and her body praised by many men and women, leading girls to believe curves define beauty.

American musician Nicki Minaj openly revealed that she had plastic surgery to increase her breasts, hip area and butt.

The before and after pictures of her transformation are unbelievable. Furthermore, she has had her face restructured to give her the desired look every woman looks for.

Very many African-American women have an obsession with curves to the extent of getting surgeries done in backdoor places just to get the desired figure.

To make matters worse, rap videos which are predominant in the United States praise curvaceous and light-skinned women; so much that the slimmer dark-skinned ones feel very unattractive.

Closer home, the controversial Vera Sidika has just recently bleached herself so much that if you did not see her before one wouldn’t know it was her.

When asked, she said, it is her body and she will do as she pleases with it.

Little does she know that there are young girls who idolises her and does exactly what she does. In addition, her arm is ‘decorated’ with a huge tattoo, and her head always adorned with expensive weaves.

Her attire must always reveal something; her cleavage, her thighs, or the curves on her body. Is this the kind of woman we want our daughters and sisters to follow?

I know a university girl who is bleaching herself (with very cheap creams that do more of burning the skin than bleaching) and is taking all kinds of pills that she says will ‘enhance her curves’.

I asked her why go through all that trouble and she said “Vera Sidika gets all the men she wants, why can’t I?” So are women doing this just to attract young men? Do they not know the dangers of trying to ‘enhance’ their natural God given beauty?

Skin bleaching causes permanent damage of the skin and other organs such as the kidney, weave-ons dmamge the hairline, weakens the hair line, and stunts its growth and breast and hip increasing pills alter hormones and may permanently deform the body if they backfire.

Women should be proud of their beauty, their natural beauty. Keep fit by eating a well -balanced diet and exercise daily. This does not mean gym all the time, a walk a day does the trick.

Visit clinics for check-ups to ensure good health. Pick up a hobby, and do some personal therapy, to remind yourself of how beautiful you are. A difference will be spotted in no time.

Young women should stop looking up to celebrities as their ‘role-models’ for looks. Be your own role model by looking naturally good, instead of copying.

All these video vixens and celebrities who are always praised for being ‘hot’ have done unimaginable things to their bodies, and be assured they will regret it in the long run when they grow older.

Why subject yourself to the same suffering just because you admire their beauty? Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.

If you do not love yourself and admire yourself as beautiful and attractive, then no one else will. Another thing about beauty is that it is the inner beauty that counts.

Yes, you will be very ‘Vera Sidika-ish’ in your physique, but if you are very ugly on the inside with an unattractive personality, then it is all useless, because you will be friendless and husbandless.

Men should also step up and make their women feel beautiful. Most of these women go through the trouble of bleaching skin and going through surgery because the men make them feel that a certain type of look is the most attractive.

Love your woman for who she is and stop praising other women.Tell your woman, thick or slim, light or dark, that she is beautiful in your eyes. The effect will be immense; it will make a difference in her self-esteem for the better.
